DiscLab’s CAMP IN/OUT at 1335MABINI: ART READS
Preparing at the Waiting Room – A late and close reading of few materials on criticality
Preparing at the Waiting Room aims to gather individuals to discuss selected texts on criticality. It is initiated by Renan Laru-an in preparation for his research paper entitled Working before, with acritical, a contribution to the culminating project of DiscLab on criticality.
About the paper
Working title: Working before, with acritical
The paper attempts to theorize the possibility of operating before the state of being critical, a juncture characterized by the absence of criticality and perhaps its manifestations. Through a deeper articulation of acritical, the trajectory of the paper follows an itinerant method of questioning the position of complicity, vulnerability, naiveté, and frustration in forming ways of thinking through, looking at, and operating with criticality. It uses the context of digital/virtual and crosses the boundaries of contemporary visual culture to speculate and chart arbitrary points to navigate the notion of initiating criticality.
Keywords: acritical, emerging, starting, complicity, vulnerability, naivete, frustration, itinerant practices, contemporary arts, digital/virtual criticism
